nagas

Living in the watery region under the earth called Patala, nagas are serpentine creatures from Hindu mythology. The are semi-divine and number one thousand. They have human faces and serpent's tails, and reign in great splendor and guard treasures. There are four classes of naga: heavenly, divine, earthly and hidden depending on their function in guarding the heavenly palace, giving rainfall, draining rivers, or guarding treasures. It is said that nagas have the ability to make men invisible underwater. It is also said that nagas will give ones they favour soma. a drink that will grant the drinker great strength. The King of the nagas, Ananta-Shesha is said to have either seven or 1000 heads. It is said that nagas will destroy the world with fire eventually.

In Burma, nagas are part serpent, dragon, and part crocodile. They give rubies to those that they favour and they protect many royal people in Burmese mythology.

nagumwasuck

The nagumwasuck is a færie of North America. In Native American myths of the Passamaquaddy, these færies are quite ugly and are very self-conscious of this. They help people when they are fishing and hunting, but usually try to conceal themselves from people.

nereid

In Greek mythology, the nereids were sea-nymphs, daughters of the nymph Doris and of Nereus. They number in fifty (although it is sometimes said that they number in 100). Sometimes seen frolicking on the surface of the water, the nereids (whose name means 'wet ones') lived in the underwater palace of their father. These virgins had golden hair and each had a golden throne in their father's palace. They wove and spun and often rode on dolphins.

This human that was taken to be a god in Assyrian mythology, had an eagle's head.

nixie

Nixies are Germanic sprites, beings of the water. Although the male doesn't often show himself to humans. The female however, is often seen sitting in the sun on the banks of their watery homes. Nixie maidens are beautiful with long hair and blue eyes. If a man tries to spy on their beauty, the song of the maiden can cause them to lose their wits.

nuckalavee

An Irish version of the centaur, it is said that the breath of this beast brought the plague.
